The city of Pisa, famous all over the world for the leaning bell-tower, amazes its visitors with its historical center that gently shows itself along the bends of the river Arno. Suggestive alleyways, among which you can get lost, the lights of the Lungarno reflected among the waves, the palaces full of art and legends and white churches, pure example of the Pisan Romanesque style
All becomes the ideal frame for a romantic walk, for getting to know all the characters that gave their lives and passions to the city:The story of Kinzica de’Sismondi resound through the alleys of San Martino and Sant’Antonio quarters .
According to the popular tradition, it was long time ago, at the beginning of the XI century, Kinzica saved the city. Her love for Nino kept her awake and that night she was the only one who noticed the attack from the Saracens. She suddenly ran down the streets toward the main bell-tower of the city, whose sound would have woken the people up.Camilla Del Lante.
The beautiful Camilla was a 15th century Pisan heroin who fought valiantly to free his homeland from the yoke of Florence. She was able to live with passion on behalf of his ideals and had the audacity to challenge the power. Her love convinced the noble French captain D’Entragues to fight for the liberation of the city.
Few steps from the Rosselmini Gualandi palace, the Gambacorti palace rises. It is the Pisa town hall where wedding ceremonies take place in a wonderful hall with frescoes.Maria Mancini Colonna, an anguished lady who lies in the medieval church of Santo Sepolcro. She was a noble lady from Rome, Mazzarino cardinal’s niece, she spent part of her life at the court of Louis XIV of France who felt in love with her. She unfortunately was forced to marry Onofrio Colonna who betrayed her with a woman of the people. Maria Mancini got indignant, escaped and started wandering around Europe: she ended her life in Pisa where she found peace in 1715.
The poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and his wife, the writer Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, who wrote Frankenstein, also spent part of their romantic life in Pisa. They lived in the Chiesa Palace, along the river Arno. They often went to San Giuliano Terme, a lovey village next to Pisa, to enjoy the thermal waters which are recommended still nowadays for a day of cuddles and relax.
The palace where they inhabited rises close to the Giardino Scotto: the old Sangallo Fortress that was transformed in a romantic private, now public, garden in the 19th Century. Secret passages, ancient arches, centuries-old trees and colors from plants and flowers create the frame of our path. The park is so evocative that is one of the best places where your wedding could take place in Pisa.
Strolling in Pisa we will meet numerous churches: first of all the gorgeous Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, still used for the Sunday ceremony and for the celebration of the sacraments, it is visited by millions of visitor year by year. When we get lost in the narrow streets of the city we find many other churches such as Santa Maria della Spina: a gothic jewel box facing the river Arno, along the banks for a dreamy view of the city.
San Piero in Vincoli, San Francesco and San Paolo a Ripa d’Arno but San Zeno for instance is one of the most ancient religious structures from the 11th century that keeps the medieval lines. San Zeno is no more used for religious ceremonies but civic weddings can take palace here where exhibitions and theatre plays alternate.
In Pisa each street has not only a name but a smell, a color, a vibration different one from the other: in the late afternoon students and citizens give life to the squares with concerts, music and fun. The city is crammed with pubs, bar and restaurant of any kind.
Pisa has thousand faces like the reflection on the river’s wakes.
The river’s mouth is, a few kilometers far from the city, in Marina di Pisa. It is a village that rose in the late 19th C. still keeping its romantic, old fashion stile walking in the path along the white marble rocks dip in the sea. This is the perfect place for a relaxing aperitif on the sea, a tasteful fish dinner and a walk lightened by the moon and by the lights of solitary fishermen.
The passion of Gabriele d’Annunzio, Italian early XX century poet and Eleonora Duse, unforgettable actress, was lightened in the pine tree woods between Marina di Pisa and Tirrenia where various d’Annunzio’s poems were written.Pisa next to the sea but wrapped by the mountains also.
The Monti Pisani protect the city from the cold winds and are the frame that gives life to the Val Graziosa: an area at the foot of the mountain where the lovely village of Calci is. In Calci there are the wonderful Chartreuse and the abandoned Monastery of Nicosia that weave a net between past and present. It will be a pleasant walk in art and nature, surrounded by the silver green leaves of the olive trees along the grassy path.
Easy to reach Pisa by plane from all over the world thank to the International Airport Galileo Galilei: it is only one kilometer far from the city center and from the central train station that connects you to all Tuscany: Firenze, Lucca, Livorno, Viareggio, Volterra, San Gimignano and so on.
All this makes Pisa the ideal place for falling in love and living the most beautiful day of your life.

April 22nd, 2011Senza categoriaWEDDING IN TUSCANY
Hello friends, summer is arriving as well as the wedding season in Tuscany. This year Weddings and Weddings has received a lot of requests to arrange fairytale weddings in our region, maybe inspired by the Royal wedding of William and kate, even if clients are not asking for such a luxurious event !
The main interest is to have a special ceremony in a marvellous setting that can make this ceremony unique and unforgettable, and Tuscany has all these elements. As Wedding Planner our aim is to offer the best solution according to the clients requests. This year I have noticed a great interest for the Val d’Orcia area, in the south part of Siena, where you can taste the real tuscan landscape setting! Nice cosy villages as San Quirico d’Orcia, Castiglione d’Orcia, Pienza, Montalcino, Bagno Vignoni are just a few places where my clients will have thier weddings this summer.
It is quite curious that some clients recently told me that they are very grateful to me for having proposed them such nice locations a bit outsite from the main tourist stream of destinations as Florence, Siena and the Chianti area where they initially intented to have their ceremony.
Beside, even for them, all the pre-weddings procedures were simpler than expected and they enjoyed a lot being in touch with nice local services suppliers as catering, flowerist, musicians, villa owners.
As wedding planner my job is not just arranging a civil ceremony in a Renaissance Town hall, a symbolic wedding in a villa garden overlooking the valley, or a religious wedding in a Medieval Abbey; my best satisfaction is to pass my strong love for my region to my clients and to transmit it to them, allowing them to keep their memory of their unforgettable day bound to the beauty of Tuscany!- Wedding in Tuscany summer 2011
