Wedding in Pisa

 

The city of the Leaning tower. The expansion of the military and economic power of the Maritime Republic was bound to the urban growth of Pisa. The city walls were extended to enclose most of the areas south of river  Arno. The lungarni –riversides are unique landmarks of Pisa’ artistic, cultural and historical background.

Piazza dei Miracoli – Miracles Square,and its buildings as Duomo, Camposanto, Battistero, attests the grandeur of the Pisan Republic during the first two centuries of the millennium. The leaning tower in particular is outstanding for the stylistic consistency and building perfection. Even during the Medici period, Pisa had an important role in the history of Tuscany. Cosimo I dei Medici began the Order of the Knights of St Stephen in the Palazzo dei cavalieri on the same square, nowadays headquarter of the prestigious University College, Scuola Normale Superiore.
