Wedding in Porto Venere

Do you have in mind an event on a cosy little seaside village on the ligurian coast? A wedding in Porto Venere is the best place for you !

The ancient Portus Veneris dates back to the middle of the first century BC. It seems that the name refers to the temple to the goddess Venus which was sited on the promontory where  the Church of St. Peter now stands. Later Porto Venere was a base of the Byzantine fleet, destroyed by Lombards and Saracens. It passed to Genoa in early 12th century, then under the French domination of Napoleon in1797 till 1815 when it was incorporated in the kingdom of Sardina.

In 1998 Porto Venere obtained for its architectural heritage and natural entry in the list of the protected World Heritage Site. This typical fishermen village lies at the southern end of a peninsula, which forms the western shore of the gulf of La Spezia, known as the gulf of poets. In front of it there are the nice 3 small islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto.

Porto Venere is dominated by the stunning Doria castle on the top of the village where it is possible to arrange a wedding civil ceremony as well as  a wedding reception. The sea view from the castle is fantastic and the a good catering company followed by a music band will make your wedding party unforgettable!

Then there is the gothic Church of St.Peter, built over a pre-existing5th century paleo-Christian Church, which represents a sort of  symbol of the small village  with its white and black stripes and the Romanesque Church of St. Lorenzo, on a site of an ancient temple dedicated to Jupiter.

The little tiny streets of the village, the nice seafront promenade with fish restaurants, nice boutique hotels overlooking the seafront can be a fantastic location for your wedding in Porto Venere. It is really a very nice place where you  can combine the freshness of a nice seaside place, the hospitality of local people and the setting of a breathtaking view of this fantastic gulf ! As wedding planner we will be glad to arrange your wedding in such a nice location!
